The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has inaugurated a specialized monitoring team to supervise the conduct of police personnel stationed at checkpoints across the state. This initiative, announced on December 28, is led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police and aims to enhance operational effectiveness during the festive season.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the commissioner implemented the measure following an operational review of key security locations to bolster public safety. The focus is on ensuring that officers involved in stop-and-search operations and traffic control duties adhere strictly to the professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

ASP Okoye explained that a mobile patrol team, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP X-Squad, will conduct routine inspections. This team will collaborate with other security agencies to monitor police activities, ensuring compliance with the Police Act and discouraging corrupt practices such as extortion or disrespectful behavior towards the public.

Commissioner Danjuma emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect, and courtesy in officers’ dealings with citizens. He warned that any form of misconduct, particularly extortion, would be met with strict disciplinary actions.

The statement further noted that the Commissioner of Police had reviewed overall security strategies in collaboration with other agencies to guarantee effective deployment of personnel, maintaining law and order during the holiday period.
