The First Lady of Imo State, Dr. Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, has officially launched a statewide awareness campaign aimed at promoting immunization against measles, rubella, tuberculosis (TB), and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The event, held in Owerri, brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, community leaders, and representatives from all 27 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
The initiative is part of the First Lady’s ongoing commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of women and children across Imo State. In her keynote address, Dr. Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma emphasized the importance of vaccines in preventing life-threatening illnesses and urged women leaders to take the message back to their respective communities.
Vaccines save lives. It is our duty as mothers, caregivers, and leaders to ensure that our children are fully immunized against preventable diseases,” she stated. “I encourage you all to return to your LGAs and spread this message. Let our communities understand that vaccines are not only safe but vital to our children’s future.”
Representing the wives of local government chairmen across Imo State, Hon. Mrs. Nonye Nnani, wife of the Executive Chairman of Oguta LGA and Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Wives Forum, commended Dr. Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma for her leadership in health advocacy. She pledged the collective support of the chairpersons’ wives in driving the vaccination campaign to every corner of the state.
We are grateful for the First Lady’s dedication to the health of our people,” Mrs. Nnani said. “We assure her that we will take this message to our grassroots and ensure that our women are informed and mobilized for action.”
In her goodwill message, Dr. Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma also called on the women and the general public to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the Federal Government is working hard to improve healthcare infrastructure and access nationwide.
This administration remains focused on strengthening our health systems, especially at the community level. With your continued support, we can achieve a healthier and stronger Nigeria,” she added.
The awareness campaign is expected to boost vaccine uptake across the state, contributing to the national goal of eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases and enhancing public health outcomes.
