Imo CPC Intensifies Consumer Rights Awareness In Major Markets

Sharing is caring

The Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC), under the leadership of Director General Mrs. Obioma Okafor, has initiated a robust campaign aimed at educating consumers about their rights and promoting informed purchasing decisions. This large-scale sensitization effort is being carried out in partnership with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and targets key markets across the state.

The awareness drive has already reached several prominent markets, including Eke-Onunwa, Relief Market, New Market, and Amakohia Market, where CPC and NAFDAC teams engaged directly with vendors and shoppers. The campaign seeks to empower consumers with the knowledge to make safer choices by scrutinizing products thoroughly before purchase.

Mrs. Okafor emphasized the importance of examining critical product details such as expiry dates, NAFDAC registration numbers, and manufacturers’ addresses. “Our goal is to ensure that citizens are vigilant about what they purchase and consume. Verifying these details is essential for guaranteeing product safety and quality,” she explained.

She further encouraged consumers to report cases of substandard products or unethical trading practices to the CPC office in Owerri, reaffirming the council’s dedication to protecting consumer rights and fostering a fair marketplace.

Speaking on behalf of NAFDAC, Mrs. Mercy Ndukwe, the agency’s State Coordinator, reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring the safety and quality of food and drugs.

This proactive initiative reflects the CPC’s renewed focus on combating fraudulent practices and equipping residents with the knowledge needed to make confident and informed choices within the vibrant markets of Imo State.
