Imo APC Places Chieftains, Members Under Surveillance After Defections

Sharing is caring

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has intensified surveillance on its leaders and members, down to the ward level, following the recent defections of two members of the State Working Committee (SWC).

The defectors joined the Mazi Organization, a political group led by Mazi Chima Amadi, who is rumored to be preparing for a governorship bid in 2027.

Sources within the party disclosed that the defections may have unsettled the APC leadership in the state, prompting a series of strategic meetings across local government areas.

Stakeholders were reportedly instructed to monitor political alignments and discourage any affiliations with groups or individuals not sanctioned by the State Executive Committee (SEC).

Party insiders revealed that ward members and some prominent chieftains are now under close watch.

“There is a heightened sense of caution in the party. Surveillance mechanisms have been set up to identify those who might be secretly supporting groups not approved by the party.”a source said

The situation has created tension within the party as members are being warned to avoid political gatherings not aligned with the APC’s official structure. This directive has reportedly caused unease, with many members concerned about being perceived as disloyal.

The State Chairman of the APC, Mac Donald Ebere, has been vocal about his commitment to maintaining party discipline. He recently vowed to clamp down on any activities or political moves that do not align with the agenda of Governor Hope Uzodimma, describing such actions as a distraction to the governor’s administration.

At a recent meeting with party leaders at its Okigwe Road secretariat, Ebere reportedly emphasized the need for loyalty to the governor, who is regarded as the leader of the party in the state. “Any action that undermines the governor’s leadership will not be tolerated,” he was quoted as saying.

Another chieftain of the APC and President of the Owerri Zone Leadership Forum (OZOPOLF), Charles Amadi, raised concerns over the defections, which he said are causing political noise in the state.

However, the Mazi Organization fired back in a statement signed by its spokesman, Cajethan Duke, asserting that freedom of political association is enshrined in the laws of the land.
