Sharing is caring

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to halt the use of Point-of-Sales (POS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and facilities nationwide.

The ban comes in response to public outcry over alleged illegal transactions involving POS machine operators and certain police operatives.

The ban on POS machines and other electronic payment devices within police facilities aims to safeguard the integrity and security of police operations.

The directive seeks to prevent corrupt practices and eliminate the potential for criminal intrusion under the guise of financial transactions.

Any command or formation found violating this ban will face severe consequences, including disciplinary action for police officers and dire consequences for POS operators involved.

The use of electronic payment devices within police facilities poses significant risks, such as the compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and facilitation of illicit activities.

The IGP emphasizes the non-negotiable nature of strict adherence to this directive, urging all officers and personnel to comply without exception.

Any police officer or POS operator found contravening the order or engaging in illicit financial transactions will face appropriate disciplinary and criminal action in accordance with the extant laws and regulations. The leadership of the respective command or formation will also be held responsible for any violations.

It is important for the police force to prioritize the integrity and security of their operations, and this ban on POS machines is a step towards achieving that goal.
