Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed a new Commissioner of Police (CP) for Rivers State. The newly appointed CP for Rivers State is Olatunji Disu.

This development is part of a broader strategy to bolster security measures and improve the coordination of police operations throughout Nigeria. The appointments of the new CPs and senior police officers have been made with immediate effect.

In a dispatch signal obtained, IGP Egbetokun charged the newly appointed CPs to demonstrate professional competence and efficiency in their respective roles.

Notably, Olatunji Disu’s appointment as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State comes just one week after Governor Siminalayi Fubara accused certain police officers of attempting to harm him during his visit to assess the damage inflicted on the State House of Assembly. The Assembly had suffered significant damage due to an explosion that affected its hallowed chambers.

The situation escalated when the State House of Assembly sought to impeach Governor Fubara, triggering days of protests by youths in the state. Tragically, these protests resulted in the arrest of 150 youths and the unfortunate death of a youth due to a stray bullet fired by the police.

Olatunji Disu’s new appointment follows his promotion from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police to Commissioner of Police just seven months ago. He had previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Prior to that, he played a vital role as the Deputy Head of the Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command.

The reshuffling and appointments of these senior police officers are expected to strengthen law enforcement efforts and address security challenges, not only in Rivers State but also across the country.
