Hunger Protests: “We Know Where The Sponsors Are,” Tinubu Reveals

Sharing is caring

President Bola Tinubu has revealed the location of the sponsors behind the planned nationwide protest.

The protest has been scheduled to be held across all states of the Federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August.

Food and basic commodities prices have skyrocketed recently. Nigerians are facing one of the worst inflation and economic crises due to the government’s removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates.

As a result of this, Nigerians and other civil society groups have decided to hit the streets to air their grievances and make their voices heard.

Protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations until major changes are made.

But the Federal Government has consistently warned against the planned protests, citing concerns that they could lead to anarchy.

Officials fear that the protests, initially intended to be peaceful, could be hijacked by unscrupulous elements, resulting in chaos across the country.

They said that the government is taking all necessary steps to alleviate the suffering in the land and urge Nigerians not to protest as the demonstrations are only fueled by anger and hate.

Tinubu while receiving a delegation of Islamic leaders led by Sheikh Bala Lau, at the State House on Thursday, said the sponsors of protests place their selfish ambitions above the national interest.

He disclosed that the protest sponsors are located in different parts of the world and holding meetings virtually.

“The sponsors of protests do not love our country. They have no love for the nation. They do not understand citizenship. They have alternative passports.

“They are in different parts of the world holding meetings virtually.

“We do not want to turn Nigeria into Sudan. We are talking about hunger, not burials. We have to be careful. We should be careful with premature politics; politics of hate, and anger.

“The internet has made it possible to hold meetings in artificial settings. They hold meetings and sponsor anger,’’ the president said.
