Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a senior advocate and human rights activist, has formally notified the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of planned public meetings, rallies, and processions organized by the Take It Back Movement, a non-governmental body, and other patriotic Nigerians and groups.

In a letter dated July 26, 2024, Adegboruwa, writing as solicitor to the Take It Back Movement, informed the IGP that the planned rallies will take place from August 1 to 10, 2024, or any time thereafter at Eagle Square in Abuja and other public spaces in the capital cities of all 36 states and the headquarters of the 774 local government councils.

Adegboruwa emphasized the importance of police presence during such rallies and protests, citing the need to maintain law and order, protect protesters, and prevent any potential hijacking by non-state actors.

He urged the IGP to provide details of the police officers or teams assigned to cover the events, to facilitate harmonization of plans and strategies.

The Take It Back Movement, a coalition of concerned Nigerians, aims to express grievances and demands for better governance, economic reforms, and social justice through peaceful protests.

Adegboruwa’s letter serves as a formal notification to the police, ensuring that the rights of protesters are protected while maintaining public safety.

By requesting police coverage, Adegboruwa demonstrated a commitment to peaceful and lawful protests, acknowledging the crucial role of law enforcement in maintaining order and protecting citizens’ rights.

The IGP’s response and deployment of police personnel will be crucial in ensuring the success and safety of the planned protests.
