Hon Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, Member Representing Idemili North And South Federal Constituency, presented and led a debate on “a bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Mining Development Bank (NMDB).” The bill aims at establishing a bank dedicated to providing financial support, promoting investment, conducting research, and fostering sustainable development in the mining sector in Nigeria.
Hon. Uche Okonkwo, leading the debate on the bill to pass the second reading, noted that the solid mineral sector is an untapped resource in Nigeria’s economy.Â
Furthermore he argued, that with the establishment of the Nigerian Mining Development Bank, it will open up opportunities for young Nigerians to venture into the mining sector.
According, to him, it will attract direct foreign investment, thereby boosting Nigeria’s economy, reducing unemployment, and bringing about new hope for the administration, anchored on the idea of shifting Nigeria from a consumption economy to a production economy.
All Members of the House supported the Bill unanimously as the bill passed the second reading.
