Hon. Okonkwo Moves Motion on “The Attacks by Unknown Gunmen in Abatete, Idemili North, and Anambra State”

The Honourable Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, has moved a motion condemning the recent attacks in Abatete, Idemili North, Ukpo, and other areas in Anambra State.

Hon. Okonkwo expressed deep concern over reports of attacks that occurred on the morning of November 18, 2024, in the communities of Abatete, Idemili North, and Ukpo, including an attack on the convoy of Hon. Ginger Onwusibe. The attacks resulted in a tragic death toll of about 10 individuals, including the President General of Abatete and several security personnel.

The lawmaker, while commiserating with the families of the victims who lost their lives in the attack, extended profound condolences to all those affected. He called on the House of Representatives to observe a minute of silence in honour of the lives lost in this tragic incident of insecurity in the region.

Hon. Okonkwo further urged the House to mandate the Committee on Defence to conduct an urgent fact-finding mission to Abatete, Ukpo, and other affected regions. He also emphasized the need for collaboration with the Anambra State Government to develop a lasting solution to these security challenges.

The motion was adopted and referred to the Committee on Defence for further legislative action.
