Hon. Okonkwo Calls On NAFDAC DG to Obey House Of Reps Resolution On Lifting Of Ban On Acholic Sachet Drinks

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on NAFDAC, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, Representing Idemili North And South Federal Constituency, In the Green Chambers has called on the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, to adhere to the resolution and lift the ban on sachet alcohol beverages and pet bottles.

He gave the charge at a press conference in Abuja Recently. Recall that the House had, on March 14, 2024, asked NAFDAC to lift the ban on the production of alcohol in Sachets and Pet Bottles of less than 200ml. The resolution by the House followed agitation and protests by distillers, who said the ban would throw 500,000 workers out of jobs and ruin N800 billion investments.

Speaking on at the press conference, Hon. Okonkwo said that despite the House Committee and House of Representatives’ resolutions on the issue, the DG of NAFDAC has yet to cooperate and obey the resolutions. He noted that to strengthen our democracy, obedience to the rule of law is sacrosanct.

The lawmaker assured Nigerians that the people’s parliament will continue to work diligently and perform its oversight duties to federal government agencies to ensure efficiency and quality service delivery to Nigerians.”
