The Ishieke Police Division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State has been reportedly under serious attack by unknown gunmen for over some hours this Wednesday night.
The incident according to our sources started around 9 pm, with heavy shooting, scaring residents into hiding.
One of the sources, Tony Nwori said the gunmen arrived the police station and started shooting sporadically on the air.
He said, the gunmen engaged in a gun battle with the policemen in front of the station for over 30 minutes, before other security operatives came for defence.
The situation, in his words, later drew the attention of more security operatives including Army who came in their numbers to apprehend the hoodlums, but they continued shooting sporadically on the air while moving to Odomoke Ishieke market side along Nwiboko Obodo road in Ebonyi Council Area.
Another source, Chibuike Onwe said, presently, there was no human and vehicular movement within that vicinity as traders and residents of the area had fleed away for their safety.
When ascertained whether any loss of life has been recorded, our sources said they have not heard or seen anybody shut death as everybody was running out from the scene of the incident for safety.
All effort made to get police confirmation proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu’s phone number was not reachable and he has not yet replied to the text message sent to him by our Correspondent as at the time of filling this report.
Meanwhile while a viral video online showcased numbers of suspected hoodlums shut death, linking them to be some of the attackers of the said Ishieke police station this night.
