A head teacher in a school in Bauchi state Jalaludeen Zakari, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by the State High Court for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl who was at the school for an admission screening.
The convict was said to have detained the little girl for several hours after the official school hours before assaulting her.
The prosecuting counsel Barrister Dayabu Ayuba, said this during an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Ayuba said that during the trial, three witnesses, including the victim, testified, leading to the sentencing.
“The perpetrator asked his victim to stay back, dismissing all other pupils without providing a reason for her extended stay. While she was left behind, the assailant subjected her to sexual assault, an act equivalent to rape in legal terms,”
“The sentencing occurred in July of this year after Jalaludeen pleaded with the court for leniency.
