The organizers of the planned August 1-10, 2024, hardship protest in Nigeria have provided details of the protest to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as requested.
The details include venues and locations where the protests will take place.
The organizers, through their attorney Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, have also requested the contact details of the police officers designated to cover the protests.
This is to ensure a peaceful and crisis-free outing.
Adegboruwa has accepted the IGP’s invitation for a meeting and requested that it be held virtually to allow for enlarged participation.
The meeting will be attended by Femi Falana, SAN, the NBA, other lawyers, and civil society organizations.
IGP Egbetokun had earlier agreed to provide security for the protesters, demonstrating the police’s commitment to upholding citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.
The hardship protest is a response to the rising cost of living in Nigeria, with organizers seeking to bring attention to the struggles faced by citizens.
