“The recent arrest of Alhaji Bashir Hadejia, a former aide to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has sparked widespread outrage and demands for answers from the authorities.
Hadejia’s arrest on Monday was followed by the emergence of photos and videos on social media, showing his connections to top government functionaries and politicians.
A search warrant issued by the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Police Command, accused Hadejia of “treason and subversion against the state.”
However, the suspect’s links to prominent politicians and celebrities have raised questions about the motivations behind his arrest.
Videos and photos shared on social media show Hadejia with politicians, including a former president, Muhammadu Buhari, and the current president, Bola Tinubu.
One video clip appears to show Hadejia displaying gold bars with the image of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, referred inquiries to the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed Hadejia’s arrest and stated that he is in custody.
An aide to the Minister of State for Defence, Suleiman Shuaibu, has denied any connection between his principal and Hadejia, stating that he has never met Hadejia and does not know him personally.
The incident has sparked controversy, with many Nigerians demanding answers about Hadejia’s arrest and his connections to top government officials.”
