An intense gun duel broke out in Isseke community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, between security operatives and suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The incident, which started in the early hours of Tuesday, sent panic waves through the community, forcing residents to stay indoors and traders to abandon markets and public places due to fear of stray bullets.
Some brave villagers who ventured out of their homes suffered varying degrees of injuries before scurrying to safety.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, a joint security operation is underway to clear criminal elements and ESN/IPOB hideouts in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured that the situation is under control, with no reported casualties so far.
The reason behind the shootings is still unclear, but it is believed to be a raid on criminal hideouts. The operation is ongoing, and further details will be communicated soon.
