Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has urged believers to unite in thanksgiving to God and work collectively towards advancing Plateau State to new heights of peace and prosperity.
The Governor made this call during the 2024 Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters, held at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church, Jos.
Governor Mutfwang encouraged worshippers not to let current hardships discourage them, reminding them that their strength lies in Christ. He assured the congregation, saying, “Because Christ lives, we can be strong in Him and rejoice to the glory of God.”
Acknowledging God’s supremacy as the ultimate refuge and helper of Plateau people amidst multifaceted challenges, the Governor expressed gratitude for the prayers and unwavering support of the citizens. He reassured the congregation that his administration is tirelessly working to improve their living conditions, particularly for the most vulnerable in society.
Governor Mutfwang highlighted ongoing efforts to break the cycle of poverty afflicting the people. He affirmed his vision of transforming Jos into a city set on a hill, attracting global visitors for lawful and beneficial activities.
The Governor also announced plans for a Unity Christmas Praise and Worship program aimed at fostering unity in diversity. He expressed delight that former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, and former President, Olusegun Obasanjo have graciously accepted to serve as Chairman and Special Guest of Honor, respectively, at the occasion.
Delivering a sermon titled “Living a Life of Thanksgiving and Praise,” Rev. Associate Prof. Caleb Dami drew his message from Hebrews 13:15-16. He emphasized the necessity of offering continual sacrifices of praise to God, stating that only praise stemming from a heart aligned with God’s will is acceptable to Him.
The President of COCIN, Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo, reiterated the importance of living a life of gratitude to God. He explained that the annual Thanksgiving Service reflects God’s goodness and faithfulness throughout the year.
Rev. Prof. Mohzo commended Governor Mutfwang for his commitment to peace and security, as well as his approval of the N70,000 minimum wage for civil servants. He noted that this decision will significantly alleviate the economic hardships facing many citizens.
The service was graced by dignitaries including Senator Pam DachungGyang Mwadkwon, representing Plateau North, and the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, represented by Hon. Daniel Nanbolistic, while Diket Plang, Senator representing Plateau Central was also represented.
