The Governor of Oyo state, was present at the annual roundtable discussion, held to commemorate Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s posthumous 74th birthday and to honor his incredible life as a true legend, political genius, and intellectual prodigy.
Amidst thick emotions, the current Governor noted that Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi exemplified tremendous courage and unwavering determination and fulfilled the roles of a loving husband and father.
He further stated that as Nigeria’s former National Assembly member and the first two-term governor of Oyo State, the late elder statesman left an everlasting impression on our nation.
His message reads, “My deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, the pillar of the Ajimobi family, the Chairman of the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation, and other members of SAAF and the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ibadan. Their unwavering commitment to honoring Senator Ajimobi’s memory through this annual event is truly commendable.
Personally, the moments I shared with Senator Ajimobi, the priceless wisdom he shared with me, and the support he provided throughout my political journey will forever be cherished in my heart.
During my address on the topic “Re-engineering Nigeria for Sustainable Development: Options, Costs, and Prospects,” I emphasised the urgent need for sustainable development in Nigeria, a nation blessed with abundant resources and a large population. My speech delved into the complex challenge of redirecting Nigeria’s trajectory towards sustainable development, assessing the available options, evaluating the associated costs, and analysing the prospects of achieving this essential goal. Sustainable development is not only vital for Nigeria’s progress but also for the stability and prosperity of the entire African continent.
Senator Ajimobi was not only a compassionate individual but also an exceptional communicator. We would fondly remember his infectious smile, his witty humour, and his contagious laughter. Prior to his remarkable political career, he achieved remarkable success in the oil and gas industry.
We pray for the eternal peace of his precious soul and for his family to find strength during these challenging times. We also extend our prayers to his extensive political family and well-wishers”.
