Government Inaugurates Caretaker Committee For Onitsha Fruits And Vegetables Dealers Market Association

Anambra State Government has inaugurated a caretaker committee for the Fruits and Vegetables Dealers Market, Onitsha, located behind Power Mike, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Speaking during the event in his office at Awka, the Special Adviser (SPAD) to the governor on Trade and Markets, (SPAD), Chief Evarist Uba who performed the inauguration charged the newly appointed committee to focus on maintaining order, fostering a business-friendly atmosphere, and implementing government policies.

He emphasized that leadership positions in the market should be held only by those actively engaged in businesses there to prevent conflicts and ensure fair representation.

“You have been appointed to manage the affairs of traders, not to play politics with your position; your duty is to maintain order, promote a business-friendly environment, and uphold government policies to foster economic growth.”

He noted that the government has the right to dissolve or replace any committee or its member if the need arose while urging them to justify the confidence placed in them through transparency and dedication of service.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Barr. Samuel Ike advised the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, integrity, and commitment to improve market operations.

Chairman of the committee, Mr. Paul Okafor, expressed gratitude to the state government and assured the traders of an inclusive administration that would address their concerns while aligning with the government’s vision for market development.

The newly constituted caretaker committee comprises, Paul Okafor, Chairman; Alhaji Zuberu, Vice Chairman; Ogochukwu Okafor, Secretary and Isaac Nchedo as the Assistant Secretary.

Others are, Nkechi Nweke, Treasurer; Ifeyinea Ukpai, Financial Secretary; Uchenna Okemefuna, Provost; Alhaji Audu Yaro, Assistant Provost; Justina Ikpeawuche, Welfare Officer and Chinyere Anagbo as the Assistant Welfare Officer.

Those to assist the committee in various ways are, Sunday Onyeagbaru, Edward Inyang, Ngozi Arima, Sule Magaji, Uche Nwadike, Charles Egonu, Ikechukwu Nwabuisi, Celestina Osondu Ekeh, and Chioma Atu.

The inauguration of the committee is part of the State Government’s effort to enhance market management and promote economic growth.
