Chief Declan Emelumba, Imo State’s Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, has confirmed that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s substantial investment in the education sector is delivering significant results.
Responding to a recent survey by STATISANS, a data and policy analysis organization, Emelumba highlighted that Imo State ranked first in literacy rates among women aged 15 to 24, with an impressive 83.5% score from the sampled population.
He attributed this success to the state government’s consistent support for teachers, including prompt salary payments, regular promotions, and the extension of the retirement age to 65. Emelumba further noted that since 2021, students from Imo State, particularly female students, have consistently excelled in national exams such as JAMB, WAEC, and the Nigerian Law School Bar Examinations.
This achievement, according to Emelumba, is a direct result of Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to restoring Imo’s reputation as a leading educational hub in Nigeria and laying a strong foundation for future success.
STATISANS, in their announcement, emphasized that Imo State’s top position in literacy rates for young women is part of their periodic assessments across sectors such as health, education, environment, and policy implementation. The organization also ranked Imo State fourth in terms of the number of state-managed healthcare facilities, noting the presence of over 1,354 health centers in the state.
