A frightening incident occurred on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road when the vehicle carrying Ghana’s coaching trio, including former Premier League defender John Paintsil, was involved in a car crash.
Fortunately, head coach Otto Addo, assistant coach Paintsil, and goalkeeping coach Fatawu Dauda are in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
The accident happened while the coaches were returning to Accra after a scouting trip to observe the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.
Their vehicle was damaged when it swerved to avoid a head-on collision with a pick-up truck that veered into their lane.
The Ghanaian Football Association released a statement confirming the incident and expressing relief that the coaches are in stable condition.
“We are happy to report that all three members of the technical team are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments, as a precautionary measure, upon their return to Accra,” the statement read.
The Ghana FA is hopeful that the coaches will be fit to lead the Black Stars in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger on Thursday and Monday, respectively.
Paintsil, 43, had a successful playing career in the Premier League with West Ham, Fulham, and Leicester from 2006 to 2012.
Addo, 49, is in his second spell as Black Stars boss, having previously played for Borussia Dortmund.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community, but the swift recovery of the coaches will come as a relief to fans and players alike.
