The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu has written to the 21 Local Government Mayors in Anambra state pleading with them to partner the commission to take child-hawkers off the streets and take them back to school.
This, she said, will enable them enjoy the free education policy of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.
Having gotten the approval and support of the Mayot of Oyi Council Area, Professor Ikediugwu and her team under the Catch-Them-And- Send-Them-To-School Free Sensitization Exercise, moved round Awkuzu motor parks, markets and environs and apprehended child-hawkers found selling wares during school hours.
Earlier before the exercise, Professor Ikediugwu paid a courtesy visit to Mayor of the council Area, Hon. Emmanuel Nweke, who provided the team with some security officers.
The PPSSC Boss took the children apprehended to New Era Secondary School, Nteje, and charged the principal to get them registered and to get their parents contacts to ensure of their continual stay in school.
The Chairman, Awkuzu Market Association, Mr. Nwizu expressed support for the exercise and extended his appreciation to Governor Soludo for the free Education Policy.
It was gathered that some of the market women exhibited ignorance of the free education policy hence the importance of the Sensitization exercise.
The Member in-charge of Ogidi Educational zone in the Commission, Dr. Ngozi Ekwunife and security men from the council area were among the team that carried out the exercise.
Recalled that on the 8th October,2024, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu flagged off the Catch-Them-And-Send-Them-To-School exercise at Oye Agu Abagana and Eke Awka markets.
