A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday near the Umuika Junction along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway, resulting in the loss of five lives, including two infants.

The Abia Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have confirmed the incident.

According to reports, the driver of the Abia Line Network Sienna vehicle, who miraculously survived the crash, was speeding and fell asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control and crash into a truck before veering into the bush.

FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed that five people died in the crash, contradicting initial reports of eleven fatalities.

The victims included three male adults and two male children. Fortunately, three adults and one child survived the crash without injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue was the cause of the crash. The FRSC has launched a full investigation into the incident, and updates will be provided once the investigation is complete.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the management of the transport company has yet to release an official statement.
