A bill sponsored by Honorable Golden Iloh has successfully passed its second reading in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The bill aims to ensure the safety of workers in various factories across the state by providing them with essential safety kits.
The proposed law focuses on guaranteeing the safety, health, and welfare of factory workers, as well as all individuals lawfully present at these factories. It also addresses other related matters concerning worker protection.
During the debate, Honorable Iloh, who represents the Ihiala II constituency, highlighted the lack of protection for workers in Anambra’s factories. Many workers are exposed to harmful chemicals without proper safety measures, and their well-being is often neglected.
As lawmakers, it is our responsibility to advocate for the rights of our constituents. Many workers are unable to speak up for themselves due to fear of losing their jobs. By passing this bill into law, we can ensure the protection and preservation of workers’ lives in these factories.
The inhalation of these chemicals poses significant health risks to the workers. Many of them operate machinery without protective gloves, putting their safety at further risk.
Several other representatives, including Honorable Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru 1), Honorable Nigeria Mbachu (Awka South 1), Honorable Obi Nweke (Anambra East), and many more, expressed their support for the bill.
They emphasized that its implementation would greatly contribute to the well-being of workers in the state’s factories.
