The prize money Manchester United and Manchester City will earn for getting to the FA Cup final has been revealed.
On Saturday, current FA Cup holders City reached the final after beating Chelsea 1-0 with Bernardo Silva scoring late to seal the deal.
However, they had to survive a barrage of Chelsea attacks with Nicolas Jackson particularly wasteful in front of goal.
There was also a controversial VAR moment as Chelsea were denied a penalty when the ball struck Jack Grealish’s arm.
A day later, United survived an almighty scare as they sneaked into the final by beating Championship side Coventry City on penalties.
Erik ten Hag’s men were 3-0 with 20 minutes to play but allowed their opponents back into the match and would’ve lost in extra time if VAR hadn’t intervened.
After reaching the final, both teams will earn £1 million in prize money.
The losers in May’s showdown will get another £1 million, with the winners receiving £2 million.
Although not a small amount of money, the FA Cup prize fund is extremely low compared to the UEFA Champions League.
The winners of the Champions League will be given a cool €20 million in prize money, with the runners-up earning €15.5 million.
Winning a match in the group stage alone gets €2.8 million.
Teams also receive €15.64 million by simply reaching the group stage of the competition.
