The Football Association in England has confirmed the date for 2024 Community Shield known as the season opener
According to the Association, the match will take place on Saturday August 10 2024
The fixture, which is widely acknowledged as the starting gun for the English football season, pits the winners of the Emirates FA Cup, Manchester United, against the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Of course, that means a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final, where United memorably overcame the Blues by two goals to one.
The upcoming game will be the third Community Shield meeting between the two sides with United winning the previous two contests, in 1956 and 2011.
The Reds were last involved in the Community Shield eight years ago, in 2016, when goals from Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped them overcome Leicester City.
United have won on each of their last four appearances in the showpiece game, and have lifted the trophy (formerly known as the Charity Shield) outright on 17 occasions.
