Enugu PDP Urges LP’s Edeoga To Return To Party

Sharing is caring

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has extended an invitation to former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, urging him to return to the party.
Edeoga, who previously served as the Commissioner for Environment under former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was once a PDP stalwart before leaving to contest the governorship election under the Labour Party’s platform.

In a bid to facilitate his return, a delegation of PDP executives led by the party’s state chairman, Martin Chukwuwike, met with Edeoga. The former Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area was urged to rejoin the party’s fold and contribute to its ongoing political efforts in the state.

A video of the meeting was shared on social media platform X by Dan Nwomeh, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Peter Mbah, on Friday.

Reacting to the invitation, Edeoga expressed appreciation for the outreach but emphasized the need for consultations before making a final decision.

“I will consult widely because I am a product of several men of goodwill,” he stated. “I will take back the message from the chairman and his team. I have enormous respect for them, but it is not in the nature of Igbo people to make an immediate decision on such a weighty matter. We always take it home first. I will do so and, as quickly as possible, get back to the chairman with my position.”

His remarks indicate that while he is open to the idea, he intends to deliberate with key stakeholders before making a commitment.

Edeoga’s potential return to the PDP could reshape the political landscape in Enugu, particularly given his strong support base from the last governorship election. If he rejoins the party, it may strengthen the PDP’s position in the state while altering the dynamics within the Labour Party.

As consultations continue, political observers are keenly watching how Edeoga’s decision will impact future elections and party alignments in Enugu State.
