The Transition Committee Chairman Of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Engr Chris Obiora, has advised and admonished the youth and other affected persons, against negative peer pressure that could lead them to indulge in drug, substance abuse and Illicit trafficking activities.
He gave this admonition, as they mark 2024 World Drugs Day, stating that peer pressure has been linked to drug and substance abuse, misuse, addiction and Illicit trafficking, especially among young people.
He noted that peers play a significant role in the lives of the youth, especially in late childhood and adolescence. However, negative peer pressure with regards to misuse and abuse of drugs and substances as well as trafficking of the same, comes with a lot of burden and negative consequences.
Engr Obiora, urged The young people to equip themselves with skills introduced by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to veer their minds off drugs and stand up to say no to peers that may want to lure them into drug and substance abuse. This is to enable them to remain focused and make something out of their youthful age. For a wasted youth is a wasted generation. This, he believes with the joint collaboration of stakeholders and cooperation of the youth, can be nipped in the bud, in achieving a better human society.
