Nigerian politician, DG Southeast Governors’ Forum and Former Senator representing the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District of Anambra state, Senator Uche Ekwunife was on Friday endorsed by all her ward coordinators and key stakeholders in her decision to switch over to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
This came as a welcome development as the party stakeholders rejoiced with the senator stating that they will join her in any decision of hers.
Senator Ekwunife while addressing the historic gathering noted that political party is only a vehicle that takes political aspirants and their followers to their desired destinations, while credible leadership is crucial for sustainable democracy in every human enclave.
She expressed understanding that everybody must not align with a change of political alliance, but highlighted the importance of aligning with the ruling coalition, which provides a greater opportunity to attract rapid development and consolidate political structures.
Ekwunife further commended the coordinators for their loyalty and decision to join her to the ruling party, noting that they will not regret taking that important step.“It is time to embrace a strategic change in our political history as you join me to my former party APC. Do not be deceived by politicians who disparage APC by trying to divide registered voters across political and ethnic lines, because all political parties are the same. Each party candidate competes to win elections and secure democracy dividends for his or her people during each election season.
“Just like other registered political party, APC is a platform made up of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba people. It does not belong to any tribe. All parties are the same because none can be registered without meeting the national requirements for registration.
Similarly, if APC is a tribal party, there is no way it could have made inroads in the South East, South South, South West, as well as northern Nigeria where governors, senators, house of reps members and other category of elected officers emerged victorious from the party.
“Let us utilize this opportunity to stabilize APC in the state and key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is poised to ensure that dividends of democracy gets to all Nigerians under his leadership.
“I wish to appreciate you for your overwhelming support all through the years and your determination to join me anywhere I go can never be taken for granted.
We have been able to run a campaign structure that has brought succour to the people, built homes for the less privileged, built schools, constructed roads, established healthcare centres, among other strategic institutions and social schemes.
“Without your support, I could not have possibly achieved all those things that people are talking about today. This is more reason you should not let anybody deceive you, because it is a veritable avenue for us to achieve more, working together.
“As we await the official formalization of my entrance into the party which I joined few months ago, I implore those of you who believe in our mantra of good service to join me in identifying with the party on Saturday.
“May God continue to to bless and guide us through at this turning point of our nascent democracy”, she said.
Many of the stakeholders who spoke during the meeting took time to commend the senator for the good will she exhibit since she joined politics.
In the words of one of the founding members of PDP, Chief Nze Mmadumelu Sunday (Othordox) Ofor Eji Eje Mba n’Idemili described the Senator’s decision to align with APC as one borne out of compassion to touch more lives, provide more opportunities and democracy dividends for the citizens of Anambra State.
He further commended the senator for providing them with another political lifeline.
According to the youth coordinator in Oraukwu ward, Comr Amaefuna Emeka, who spoke on behalf of the youth coordinators, it is imperative for all ward youth coordinators to identify fully with APC.
