This move aims to alleviate any delays or potential arrears, as the government is determined to avoid owing any retiree their rightful benefits.
In a recent development, the Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Mr. Emeka Nwoñu, led a delegation to the office of the state governor. The purpose of the visit was to present a comprehensive report on the status of local government pensioners. The governor expressed satisfaction with the proactiveness of the board and assured swift action to address the concerns of the pensioners.
Furthermore, the state government has recognized the financial challenges faced by students in meeting the increased registration fees for the NECO and WAEC examinations. In response, the governor has directed the State Commissioner for Education to assess the number of students in public schools who require assistance. The aim is to provide financial aid to as many students as possible, even if it means covering at least 50 percent of the registration fees.
The governor emphasized that it is their duty to serve the people and acknowledged the difficulty students and their families face in coping with the increased fees. By offering support for NECO and WAEC registration, the state government aims to ensure that no student is deprived of the opportunity to take these important examinations due to financial constraints.
The government will work diligently to implement these initiatives, ensuring that retirees receive their gratuity payments on a monthly basis and students receive the assistance they need for exam registration. These measures reflect Ebonyi State’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and educational opportunities of its citizens.
