The Wife of Ebonyi Governor. Mrs MaryMaudline Nwifuru and the Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki ( AE-FUTHA) have strategically come together to provide innovative free health care to indigent citizens of the state.
On Saturday, The First Lady, through her pet project, Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO) partnered AE-FUTHA, WHO, UNICEF among others to organise a free medical outreach at Oferekpe Agbaja Primary school in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The First Lady urged the people to take advantage of the outreach to access free tests and treatment, free consultations, eye and dental care services, free drugs and health education.
The governor’s wife explained that the intervention was in line with the yuletide season to step down the mandate of her per project to provide better health for rural populace.She reiterated her commitment to ensure that her foundation would continue to touch lives of people in the state.
In his remark, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of AE-FUTHA Prof Robinson Onoh said that the exercise was designed to ensure Mrs Nwifuru’s drive of providing basic health care delivery is achieved at the grassroot.
Onoh stated that his team would be providing eye, dental, general body screenings and other paediatrics, surgical, among other medical checks.
He said the exercise would be carried out to the 13 LGAs of the state.
In their separate remarks, Mrs Vivian Ibeako, State Coordinator of World Health Organisation and Mrs Comfort Nweke, Commended the wife of the Gov for her efforts and pledged to continue to support her initiatives.
Reacting, the Beneficiaries, Nwibo slyvester, and Nwaka Nwebonyi appreciated the wife of the governor for the exercise and appealed for sustainance of the program.
