Former Kogi West Senator and governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reached its end in the political sphere.
In a scathing post on X, Melaye accused the party’s acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and national organizing secretary, Umar Bature, of destroying the party through commercialization and privatization.
Melaye’s outburst comes on the heels of allegations raised by PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives against Damagum and Anyanwu. The lawmakers accused the party leaders of plotting to sabotage the PDP by aiding defected former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly with legal backing, in an attempt to impeach Governor Sim Fubara.
Melaye’s criticism of the party leaders is the latest in a series of internal conflicts plaguing the PDP.
The party has been grappling with infighting, defections, and accusations of sabotage, raising concerns about its viability in the political landscape.
Damagum, however, remains unfazed by the calls for his resignation, stating that they only serve to enhance his popularity. The PDP’s national reconciliation and disciplinary committees were inaugurated in Abuja on Thursday, amidst the turmoil.
