Department Of Human Physiology Inducted 97 Human Physiologists Into Clinical Physiology Profession

~ Acting Vice-Chancellor Charged The Inductees To Be Worthy Ambassadors Of The University.



The Department off Human Physiology, Faculty Of Basic Medical Sciences, College Of Health Sciences, Nnewi Campus inducted 97 Fresh Human Physiologists (Class of 2023), Elite Centurion, into the noble Clinical Physiology profession. The event was the 2nd valedictory session of the Department tagged; Building Bridges: Connecting Physiology with Society.

The conspicuous ceremony was chaired by the distinguished Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu, FAMedS, FNAmed, ably represented by Professor Vincent Igbokwe who equally represented the Provost of the College.

In his welcome remarks, The Acting Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the graduands for graduating. He commended the graduands for their sterling dedication, sacrifice, hard work and perseverance to excel. He appreciated the unwavering supports of their parents/guardians in helping the graduands to graduate. The Acting Vice-Chancellor then charged them to carry on with the virtues – discipline, excellence & self-reliance imbibed as students to make positive impacts in the society. He reassured them of the University’s continual support especially in the pursue of their postgraduate studies.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor further reiterated the BLEDS Initiative of the present administration which was geared towards making a Happy Progressive Student and Happy Productive Staff. The University was working assiduously towards achieving the vision. He then wished the inductess a successful future, and beckoned on them to be worthy ambassadors of the University.

Professor A.N.Okpogba, The Co-host of the ceremony and The Dean of The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, in his welcome address, appreciated the role of The Acting Vice-Chancellor in piloting the affairs of the University, and the Provost in superintending the day-to-day running of the College administration. The Dean commended the graduands for their resilience in graduating despite the vagrant effects of COVID-19 and the long university-wide workers’ strike action during their studentship. He appreciated the staff of the Department and Faculty for their untiring support in making the dreams of the inductees came to reality.

The Dean then beckoned on the graduands to endeavor to pursue their postgraduate studies in the Faculty. He reminded them that they were now experts in Human Physiology and where they go next, depends on them.

The Head of Department, Dr. Uchechukwu Dimkpa, in his welcome address, celebrated the graduands who through thick and thin, weathered the storms and challenges in their academics to graduate. He reiterated that the curriculum of the Department had been reviewed and rebranded to be skill oriented. This had accounted to many positives performance rating received by the employers of our products, within and outside the country, who reported they were doing so well in various clinical sections. The HoD appreciated the support of his staff in achieving the feats. He then thanked the University and the College Management for their magnanimity in providing the enabling environment in the training of the students. He then charged the inductees to go into the world and make the Department proud – noting that the world is full of opportunities. 

Snapshots of Keynote Speakers:

1)His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi. The Former Governor of Anambra State and The Past Presidential Aspirant under the Labour Party was represented at the occasion by his aide, Barrister Valentine Obienyem.

In his shared insights and valuable contributions for the success of the event, Mr. Peter Obi charged the inductees to go the world and succeed; toe the footprints of the like of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who always exhibits her talents in  tackling the the socio-economic problems challenging the nation; upholds a high moral standard in building the society; listen to their selves, the best adviser; endeavor to take action that would rediscover oneself to grow; continue to pursue higher education for continual improvement; be a well and rounded scholar and not a fragmented one; strive to read books to enrich your knowledge; seek out for credible role models for guidance & mentorship; determined to build bridges between the science & humanity; desired to value the principles of hard work, honest and diligence, and use same to build bridges amongst the segments of the nation; and most importantly, not to forget the institution that nurtured you.

2)Chief George Muoghalu, The Former MD, NIWA, in his keynote address, felicitated with the graduands, their parents/guardians and the College for the wonderful feats. He urged the graduands to avoid any form of social vices and make good choices to go far in life. He pleaded with them not to fail their parents who had toiled relentlessly to see them graduate.

Chief Muoghalu further challenged the inductees to be courageous to admit their mistakes, correct them accordingly and move ahead in life while fearing no challenge. That they should always conduct an honest self-appraisal in order to go higher in life. He equally charged them to strive to be remembered with fond memories; be part of solution and not part of the problem.

He further encouraged them to go into the society and do their best; be determined to succeed; have the will to justify the confidence reposed on them by their parents and teachers, and most importantly, imbibe the fear of God.

3)Chief Ugezu J. Ugezu (Nze Ukwu, Ayaka Igbo gburugburu na Iduu Eri Kingdom), presented a paper titled: Beyond the Degree: Unlocking Potentials in the World. in his paper, the renowned film Actor/Producer/Director/charged the inductees on the need to evolve from “What Was”to “What Is”. He beckoned on them to follow the current trends on the happenings in the society to excel. He requested the inductees to equip themselves to know what they are supposed to do.

Chief Ugezu charged them to foster a meaningful relationship among peers and avoid making enemies; judge people based on practical experience and not on what people says about them; make decisions to survive and avoid immoral life/impatience; learn new skills, new ways of doing things and be willing to give back to the society. Finally, he encouraged them to be consistent in doing positive things which has a way of distinguishing oneself.

4)Professor Kingsley Ubaoji, Chairman, ASUU, UNIZIK Branch, in his short speech, charged the inductees to make up their minds to succeed to go higher in life; decide to develop their potentials to succeed in life; strive to overcome everything limitations that gears towards suppressing one’s growth; use their knowledge to advance what they were taught in the classroom; and above all, learn to speak up and stand up to be distinguished.

Consequently, the highpoint of the ceremony was the taking of Physiological Oath by the graduands into Clinical Physiology profession. This section was moderated by Mrs. Eloka Nneka on behalf of The Professional Association of Practicing Clinical Physiologists in Nigeria (PAPCPN). Thereafter, the President of Association, Mr. Okeke Ugochukwu congratulated the inductees for their achievements, dedication and commitment to excel in Human Physiology. He urged them to always desire to learn, unlearn and relearn to solve healthcare problems in Nigeria.

The valedictory speech was delivered by Ms. Nwadiugwu Chinagorom Marypeace, the best graduating student of the Class of 2023.

Notably, The Department use the occasion to recognize and offer special awards to some key important personalities/partners who later promised to continue to partner with the Department for its continual growth.

In his vote of thanks, the LOC, Dr. Emmanuel Ezeokeafor, on behalf of the Department, thanked the special guests for finding time to grace the event. He thanked the staff and students of the Department, the inductees parents and all who contributed to the success of the valedictory session. He then wished all journey mercies back to their respective destinations.

The valedictory session was moderated by Professor JKC Emejulu, The University Orator, who in his usually trademark, made the occasion lively and humorous.
