Crisis Brews In Idume Ogwa Over Town Union Leadership

Sharing is caring

A major crisis is looming in Idume Ogwa, Imo State, due to the failure of the current town union leadership, led by Felix Okechukwu Madu, to constitute a new leadership.

The tenure of the current leadership expired on August 17, 2024, but no electoral committee has been formed to oversee the election of new executives.

The immediate past Traditional Prime Minister, Sir D.D. Iwuoha, accused the president of using delay tactics to remain in office, contrary to the constitution.

However, Madu claimed that the mourning period for their late Traditional Ruler, HRH Eze Alban Uzor, who passed away in 2023, has prevented the constitution of a new leadership.

The town union president cited a custom that prohibits public functions during the mourning period, which will end on December 29, 2024.

Meanwhile, the member representing Mbaitoli Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, has intervened, calling for a peaceful resolution and urging the parties to consult the constitution.
