A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Department of State Service (DSS), police, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and seven others from stopping or disrupting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) congresses in Rivers State.
Justice Peter Lifu ordered the PDP and its national officers to proceed with the conduct of the congresses as scheduled, adhering strictly to the guidelines, adjusted timetable, and schedule of activities for 2024.
The court also restrained the PDP and its national officers from allowing anyone who did not obtain a nomination form or ad-hoc form within the stipulated time to run for any elective office or delegate position.
The six PDP members who filed the ex-parte application were ordered to enter into a fresh undertaking to indemnify the defendants if the court discovers it was misled into granting the restraining orders.
Justice Lifu fixed August 15 for all parties to appear before him for their respective defense.
The six PDP members who filed the ex-parte application are: Aaron Chukwuemeka, Benibo George, Solomon and Ogbonna, Lenebari Inaania, Enia Harry and ThankGod Owhorji
