The Abuja Court of Appeal has upheld the reinstatement of Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, dismissing an appeal by the Edo State House of Assembly to overturn the lower court’s judgment.
This decision affirms the earlier ruling that nullified Shaibu’s impeachment and restores him to his position.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had previously declared Shaibu’s impeachment as unlawful and unconstitutional, citing violations of the Constitution.
The court also ordered that Shaibu should receive his salaries and allowances dating back to April 2024 when he was removed from office.
The Edo State House of Assembly had impeached Shaibu in April, accusing him of leaking state government secrets and committing perjury.
However, the courts have now ruled in Shaibu’s favor, ending the prolonged rift between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
