The National Council of State has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the constitutional procedures for any change in government in Nigeria.
During its recent meeting, the council also expressed its confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, acknowledging his notable achievements since assuming office a year ago.
The meeting was attended by esteemed former leaders, including former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who were present in person, while former Heads of State, Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, joined virtually.
Other distinguished attendees included state governors, deputy governors, ministers, former Chief Justices of the Federation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the National Security Adviser.
Following the meeting, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq briefed State House Correspondents, highlighting the council’s commendation of President Tinubu’s policy decisions and initiatives. He also revealed that the governors had passed a vote of confidence in the President during a separate executive meeting.
Additionally, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, presented a report on the current security situation in the country, as well as a preliminary report on the recent protests.
The Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, who joined Governor Abdulrasaq in addressing the press, characterized the protests as a veiled attempt to disrupt the current administration’s activities.
The council expressed gratitude to Nigerians for resisting any unconstitutional attempts to change the government, underscoring the importance of adhering to democratic principles and the rule of law.
