Construction Of The 477KM Calabar-S’East Northcentral-Apo, Abuja Coastal Road Connecting Ebonyi-S’East, South-South And Northern Nigeria Is A Reality – Says Sen Nwebonyi

The Deputy Chief Whip Of The 10th Senate The Senator Representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district – Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has said that the proposed commencement of the 477km Calabar- Southeast- North Central-Apo- Abuja Coastal Super Highway connecting Calabar to Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi and ending in Apo, Abuja is a dream come true.

Senator Nwebonyi Dropped the cheering hints during the Stakeholders Engagement on the Alignment of 3B and 4 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway held at Ibom Hall, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as convened by The Minister Of Works- His Excellency- Sen. David Nweze Umahi.

The Astute Federal Legislator revealed that he moved the motion for the urgent need to construct the Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja link road at the floor of the Red Chambers just barely few months as a Senator. He noted that the road stretches from Nwiboko Obodo road through Isophumini, Mbeke Ishieke to Benue and ending in Apo, Abuja. He stressed that the road when completed will boost economic activities and reduce crime rates in the area because the youths will be more engaged in productive ventures.

Speaking further, Senator Nwebonyi commended the Minister of Works, His Excellency-Sen. David Umahi for driving the Renewed Hope Legacy Road Projects across the country, especially the actualization of the Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja link road adding that some doomsayers never believed that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway will be a reality. Happily, through the manifest commitment of President Tinubu to revolutionize the road infrastructure in the country and the passionate drive of the Works Minister, the vision has been translated to reality.

Earlier the convener of the Stakeholders Engagement meeting, Senator David Umahi noted that the section 3B and 4D would commence by August, 2024 just as the Lagos link is progressing steadily. He however warned that any contractor who is not leaving up the expectations in the job specifications and timeline would be shown the exit door adding that all encumbrances of funds and compensations have been cleared by the Federal Government.

The President of the Senate, His Excellency-Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio expressed happiness with President Tinubu for heeding his appeal that the Coastal Road passes through Akwaibom and also to begin simultaneously with the Lagos section in order to ensure completion of the project at a record time. He called on the Akwaibom state Governor, His Excellency- Pastor Umor Eno and other critical stakeholders to show maximum cooperation with the contractors when the project kicks off.

Responding, the Akwaibom state Governor, His Excellency- Pastor Umor Eno assured of maximum cooperation with the contractors stressing that adequate compensations have been paid to all those affected by the project. He commended the Works Minister for driving the Renewed Hope Legacy Road Infrastructure of the Federal Government.

The Stakeholders Engagement was attended by the Senate President -Sen. Godswill Akpabio, the Governor of Akwaibom state –Pator Umor Eno, Works Minister-Sen. David Umahi, the Senate Deputy Chief Whip-Sen Onyekachi Nwebonyi, relevant stakeholders, Principal officers of Government and gentlemen of the press among other important dignitaries.
