Commissioner For Women Affairs , Obinabo Calls For Concerted Efforts To Eliminate Gender-Based Violence

Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ify Obinabo has called on Ndi Anambra and stakeholders to join hands with the state government to eliminate gender-based violence and create a safer, more inclusive society.

Mrs Obinabo made the call during the Pre-conference press briefing for the 2024 Unite Conference and sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence in Anambra State.

She explained that the sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence with the theme “Unite To End Gender-Based Violence in Anambra State”, is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action to eliminate violence against women and girls.

The Commissioner acknowledged the contributions of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, RoLAC II Programme, a key partner of the state government in the fight against gender-based violence and for spearheading transformative achievements in the state.

She disclosed that the state government, with the support of RoLAC, has domesticated and implemented critical laws such as the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, the Child Rights Law, Anambra State Disability Rights Law, among others.

She urged stakeholders, government agencies, civil society, and traditional rulers to participate in the unite conference against gender-based violence that will hold on Wednesday this week as it will provide the platform to reflect on the progress made so far, discuss strategies, and forge stronger collaborations to end the ugly trend in the state.
