The rising tension over the outcome of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA primary election for Anambra South Senatorial District was this Wednesday doused by the frontline contender to the ticket Chief Ebuka Onunkwo when he announced that the party decision is supreme.
Onunkwo who it was highly rated to emerge as the candidate of the party however withdrew from the race last Monday for the eventual candidate Emma Nwachukwu to fly the flag of the party in the August 16th Anambra South Senatorial District by election.
There were pressures on him to challenge the process and ultimately join another party to contest in the election which he turned down.
It was also rumoured that party members have concluded arrangements to frustrate the party during the coming election through a protest vote against the party which was already unsettling the ranks of APGA in the area.
Onunkwo however dismissed the two options and urged members to remain in the party and support the party in the election as well as the November 8th gubernatorial election in the state.
Addressing an intimidating crowd of party faithfuls during a thank you reception for the members of the party at his country home in Ihembosi in Ekwusigo local government area, Onunkwo contended that the party is supreme noting that it amounts to sabotage for members to execute such plots.
“Since October last year that went into active party politics the narrative has changed and it is obvious for everyone to see”
“Whatever that happened I cannot abandoned APGA because my supporters know what we did to change the narrative in our party in Anambra South”
“The party is supreme and I cannot fight the party and may be God said this is not my time to go to the Senate”
He further advised his supporters to remain in the party and support the party at every election.
“I also urged my supporters to remain calm and they should not lose sleep over the turn of events at the primary election”
“What is significant is that I have thrown my heart into the political field and there is no going back anymore”
“He who fights and retreats lives to fight another day and that is what politics is all about” he said.
