Bus Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Leaves 12 Dead, 4 Injured

Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Mazda bus carrying 16 passengers was involved in a lone accident, resulting in the deaths of 12 people.

The incident occurred around 3 pm near Malo in the Ogere area of the expressway.

According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, the bus with registration number DDA733 XA was involved in a wrongful overtaking maneuver, leading to the loss of control and a collision with the road divider.

The bus subsequently burst into flames, claiming the lives of 12 passengers.

Four other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention.

The Sector Commander, Ogun Sector Command, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed concern over the reckless behavior of some motorists on the highway, who disregard traffic rules and regulations. He offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, as well as the need for defensive driving techniques to prevent such accidents.

The FRSC will likely conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and take necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
