Late Akeredolu

Immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have expressed grief over the death of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Akeredolu was the governor of Ondo State until his death on Wednesday following a battle with prostate cancer.

In a statement, Buhari described the late Akeredolu as a towering political and legal luminary.

“I have lost a valued friend. I pray that his soul finds eternal peace. My thoughts are with the countless people who are inspired by his leadership in law and politics.

“My condolences to his family, the government and people of Ondo State, and to our party, the All Progressives Congress,” Buhari said.

Also, Osinbajo, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said he lost a brother of over 40 years. “Aketi was bold, courageous, forthright, fair-minded, kind and God-fearing. He firmly believed in our democracy, justice and the rule of law. He loved the people of Ondo State and was passionate about their security and economic advancement. “We pray that the Almighty God will comfort the family and people of Ondo State on this great loss,” Osinbajo wrote.
