Brilliant Bees Sting Chelsea

Chelsea torrid run at home continues as they fell in front of their fans to Brentford 2-0 to further put pressure on manager Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea have won only one of their past 13 home Premier League matches, beating newly promoted Luton in August.

But on Saturday they found in Brentford a hard nut to crack as the Bees stung them twice for their third Premier League win of the season as goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo did the damage

The Blues, who had 17 shots to Brentford’s seven, were punished through Pinnock’s thumping header from Mbeumo’s cross.

With Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez up the field for a late corner, Neal Maupay led a Brentford counter-attack and set up Mbeumo for the second.

Brentford became the first side in Premier League history to win each of their first three games against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the competition – meaning boss Thomas Frank has more league wins at Chelsea’s home ground than their two most recent managers combined.

On Saturday Chelsea were largely the better side but were wasteful in front of goal, managing two shots on target.

They have now failed to score in four of their 10 league games this season and, of the 10 teams above them in the table, only Manchester United have scored fewer than their 13 goals.

Chelsea host Blackburn in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and Brentford entertain West Ham in the Premier League next Saturday.
