… Zulum Pays Highest Wage In Northeast – NLC
Thousands of primary school teachers in Borno State rejoiced on Friday as Governor Babagana Umara Zulum approved the implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage.
The new salary hit teachers’ accounts on Thursday, one week after civil servants in Borno State received the same minimum wage for their October salaries. Many teachers shared screenshots of their payment alerts on social media to celebrate.
Governor Zulum initially announced the pay raise on October 10th in a meeting with the minimum wage implementation committee, where he also approved N3 billion for entitlements to the families of deceased civil servants.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Borno State Chapter, praised the state’s minimum wage as the highest in the northeast. NLC Chairman, Comrade Inuwa Yusuf, commended Governor Zulum, stating, “Our members have expressed their gratitude. Borno now leads the northeast in wage standards, and we commend His Excellency for this achievement.”
