Bordeaux Football Club, a six-time French champion, has filed for bankruptcy and will abandon its professional status due to financial difficulties.

The club’s takeover talks with Fenway Sports Group, owner of Liverpool, collapsed, leading to the decision.

Bordeaux was relegated to the third tier of French football, National 1, by the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) due to financial concerns.

The club has announced that it will close its renowned training academy, terminate player contracts, and reduce financing needs.

This marks a significant downfall for the club, which has a rich history and has developed talented players like Zinedine Zidane, Bixente Lizarazu, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Jules Kounde.

Bordeaux’s bankruptcy and loss of professional status are a consequence of the club’s financial struggles and the failed takeover talks.
