Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, was marked by silence and empty streets on Friday as residents observed the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) in remembrance of fallen Biafra heroes.

The city’s roads were largely deserted, with only sporadic sightings of tricycles and a handful of vehicles moving around.
Shops along major and minor streets remained closed for the day. Markets and motor parks also observed the order, shutting down operations entirely. Similarly, banks did not open for transactions, and both private and public schools kept their gates shut, with no students or pupils in attendance. Despite the quiet atmosphere, some young people took to the empty roads to play soccer, while others gathered at the entrances of their homes, engaging in discussions about the country’s current affairs. Sponsored Interestingly, no security agents were seen patrolling the city, but the day passed without any reported incidents or clashes between law enforcement and supporters of the sit-at-home directive.
