Sharing is caring

In a significant step towards improving maternal healthcare, the Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO) foundation, founded by the wife of the state governor, has initiated the free enrollment of all pregnant women in Ebonyi state into the State’s Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA).

The flag-off ceremony, which took place at the Maternal Child Healthcare in Azuiyiokwu (MCH), Abakaliki, marked a momentous occasion for the state. The implementation of this health insurance program is expected to have a profound impact on reducing maternal mortality and morbidity rates.

The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that all pregnant women in Ebonyi state have access to essential prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care services, including surgical care. The coverage extends to 171 wards across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

By providing pregnant women with health insurance, the foundation aims to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and the well-being of their unborn children and families. This initiative recognizes the importance of ensuring that every woman has access to quality healthcare throughout their pregnancy journey.

The free enrollment into the State’s Health Insurance Agency will enable pregnant women to receive comprehensive healthcare services without financial barriers. This includes prenatal check-ups, safe delivery care, and postnatal services for up to six weeks after giving birth.

The Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and IDPs foundation, under the leadership of the governor’s wife, remains committed to improving the health outcomes of pregnant women in Ebonyi state. Through this initiative, they aim to create a healthcare system that prioritizes the well-being of women and their children, ultimately leading to healthier communities.

This proactive step towards providing health insurance to pregnant women reflects the foundation’s dedication to fulfilling the “people’s charter of needs” outlined in the governor’s manifesto. By addressing the healthcare needs of pregnant women, the foundation strives to create a brighter and healthier future for the people of Ebonyi state.
