Be Supportive To Government Policies, Programmes In The Interest Of Our State, Says Cleric

Sharing is caring

The Vicar, St Peter’s Anglican Church, Akpo, Rev Canon Henry Durunna has called on Ndi Anambra to support Anambra State Government policies and programmes to achieve state of our dreams.

He said this in an interface with EkweAnaedo, at the Church parsonage, in Aguata LGA.

The cleric said, “the good book directed that we pray for those in authority. This implies that governors require support of the governed to making better society.

“So, when you are in opposition party, interested in Guber Office or having personal disagreement with any/those in authority, it is obligated unto you to support government in power.

“Support does not mean singing praises when things are going wrong rather, it is criticizing constructively with the aim of bringing government to the reality of the time”.

According to him, Support means obedience to government directives especially where it favours the masses, closes the gap between the rich and the poor.

“Anambra State Government promulgated law with regard to reducing cost of burials cum funerals. The reduction affects money cost, time wastages, stressing of oneself, among other logistics.

“It also closes the gap between the poor and the rich, hence it gives the poor opportunity of burying his dead with ease.”

He wondered why people are not adhering to these directives strictly.

“I have seen people sell land and other valuables to bury the dead. Chai ! What a stupid act.

“Of what good it is to sow clothes for all your family members, relatives, in-laws from far and near in the name of burial. If it is good done and you can afford it, why don’t you do it instead of waiting until one dies.

“It sounds stupid, noting that a man did not live in good house while alive, at death his children took his lifeless body to the mortuary for keeps.

“The aim is to have enough time to building a new house where his body will be laid in state for people to queue up in view of his lifeless body.

“The bed could be decorated with millions of naira yet the man did not sleep in a good foam while alive.

“Imagine someone building temporal house or houses to accommodating very important personalities(VIPs) worth millions of naira in a burial cum funeral that will be dismantled in about 48 hours, yet an indigent around him has no house to live.

“List of economic wastages at burial in Igbo land cannot be exhausted in a story like this but thank God for Anambra State Government for thinking in the direction of shaping these economic wastages at burials cum funerals.

“We do not need to wait for government to come up with stringent measures, to forcing us to adhere to burial directives stipulated.

“We need to appreciate government as we willingly adhere to these directives which is indeed in our own interest.”

The cleric pleaded with Ndi Igwe, President Generals(PGs) to get copy of Anambra State burial cum funeral law, present it to stakeholders meeting in their various communities for familiarization.

“Stakeholders include religious heads, pastors, village heads, women group heads, youth leaders.

“They are to work out adjustments that will make burial cum funeral work out in a day with ease.”

He commended communities, villages, families who have placed ban on cannon shots, gun shots and other explosives at burials cum funerals.

Canon Durunna added that those who are still practicing the barbaric fun at social gatherings should consider its hazards.

“It is better to be proactive than reactive. Many had died as a result of cannon shots and gun shots at burial cum funeral. Many others had sustained injuries that led to permanent disabilities.

“Many underground water tanks, sceptic tanks have been destroyed. Our living houses foundations, glass doors and windows are not finding vibrations from these explosives easy.

“As a pastor I can assure you that these things does not have an iota of spiritual values.

“A man books a place in the spirit world while living. So, beautify your crown above while alive as you live for others.
