Dunukofia Mayor, Barr. Chijioke C Ozumba, paid a visit to the Survivor of the recent attack on Ukpo Vigilante Group, Mr. Angus Nweke, popularly known as Ononenyi who is currently responding to treatment in an hospital.
He also visited and condoled with the family of the slain Vigilante Member, Mr. Joel Anisi and Ukpo community over the unfortunate loss of life in the recent heartless attack on the community Vigilante Group.
It will be recalled that on Monday, 18th November, 2024, some unidentified gunmen attacked the members of Ukpo Vigilante Group at the popular Ezi-Oraja Roundabout Ukpo, where one personnel of the Vigilante Group was killed in the process and the other colleague sustained several bullets injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Speaking during the visits, Barr. Ozumba condemned such dastardly attack on the community, especially against the security operatives. He called on the Nigeria Police Force to intensify their efforts to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly acts, as well as bring the culprits to face the full wrath of the law.
He assured to follow up the hospital treatment of Mr. Ononenyi, with all the necessary assistance, financially or materially, to facilitate his quick recovery and ensure that he return home to join his family.
The Mayor, also offered education scholarship to the four children of the deceased Vigilante member, Mr. Joel Anisi, and promised to assist offset the necessary needs for his burial.
According to him, “we will not abandon you at this time of grieve, especially as Mr. Anisi died while in active duty.” He further assured them that “assistance will come whenever it’s required to take care of both the survivor and the deceased families”.
Finally, Barr. Ozumba reiterated that security of lives and properties of Ndi Dunukofia is number one priority of his administration. He therefore assured the peace loving people of their safety, general wellbeing, and also promised to make urgent effort to replace the burnt Vehicles.
The Mayor was accompanied by his Deputy, Mrs Chinweze Lilian Ujunwa, the DPO of Dunukofia Police Division, SP Green Offor, Ukpo Central Vigilante Chairman, Mr. Innocent Okoye, Ukpo Musketeers Vigilante Chairman, Mr. Chibuzo Nwankwo, Akpu Ukpo Vigilante Chairman, Mr. Okwunwanne Mputa (Okwuoto), and others.
May soul of Mr. Joel Anisi and the souls of all the departed faithfuls keep resting in the bosom of the Lord, till the resurrection hour and may the good Lord grant his bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss through Christ in Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.
We also pray for the quick recovery of Ononenenyi.
Dunukofia shall not witness this ugly incident again is our prayer.
