In a recent video, controversial former insurgent from the Niger Delta, Asari-Dokubo, called the current government the “worst” and said it was an insult to the Ijaw people. This angered many.
Dokubo is accustomed to political upheaval, having served as the founding member of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force and president of the Ijaw Youth Council.
During the election campaign, Dokubo, who was once a significant backer of Bola Tinubu, gave the Ijaw community assurance by saying, “If Tinubu fails, hold me responsible.”
He boasted to the country that he still stands for Tinubu. A video from July 2023 showed Dokubo speaking to ardent foot soldiers who reaffirmed their support for Tinubu.
Dokubo raised the stakes by designating Rivers State as the “litmus test” for prospective disturbance and alluded to a potentially explosive conflict.
